To drive adoption of impact accounting and meet market needs as soon as possible, IFVI is making available four interim environmental methodologies, prior to completing an official methodology oversight process, including the VTPC Review and Due Process.

This release will enable us to obtain valuable feedback on this important step in driving improved transparency and standardization in impact valuation and pave the way for an effective impact accounting system.

Topics

Interim environmental methodologies cover significant environmental impacts not covered by the official methodologies, developed by IFVI in partnership with the Value Balancing Alliance (VBA), adjusted for all major geographic locations and including all material pollutant specific impacts within each category below.

Global Value Factor Database

The near 100,000 value factors included in the interim and official environmental methodologies are presented together in the global value factor database for ease of use.

Interim Methodologies

Preparers should utilize the database and the methodologies — which include an overview of the topic, its impacts, and how to apply the value factors — to prepare impact accounts for each of the topics.

While available for immediate application, all interim methodologies will be subject to further revision and development through the due process and independent oversight of the VTPC. We invite you to share your feedback as inputs to that process.

Interim Models and Technical Manuals

While the resources above are sufficient to understand and apply the methodologies for the vast majority of users, for some users seeking to understand the underlying models and expand upon them, we have made available additional resources for each methodology for transparency:

  • Interim Models: Spreadsheets outlining the detailed formulas and data inputs used to calculate the value factors, presented for transparency and future revision / expansion.
  • Interim Technical Manuals: A detailed guide on how to understand, apply, and expand the model used to apply the methodology for each topic.

If you have feedback on the documents or questions about the models, please reach out to research@ifvi.org.
